A solid season: the raid is the highlight and Bulwark Ops is fun, though its single-map endless mode falls short.
In late December 2025 the Season of Providence began — the third season of Destiny: Rising, NetEase's gacha looter shooter set in Bungie's universe. Here are its most important additions.
Kabr, the Resolute
The season's headline character is a five-star version of Kabr, the four-star character you get for free in the story. He's available on a limited gacha banner that also offers special pulls.
Those pulls come from an event with daily and one-off tasks: logging in, finishing dailies and contracts, spending energy and using the banner itself. In total the event grants 60 pulls, enough to guarantee the character. Don't leave it to the last minute — the event has an end date.
The new Kabr changes his look, weapons (scout rifle and linear fusion rifle), passives and abilities:
- A hold-to-channel electric beam.
- An electric wall with three charges.
- A shield ultimate that fires three charged blasts.
New weapons
Two standard weapon collections arrive. Black Armory includes a shotgun, sniper, sword and rocket launcher, with a perk that stacks reload speed when you're near an ally. The Hive collection brings a pulse rifle, scout rifle, shotgun and machine gun; its perk refills the magazine from reserves when you break a target's elemental shield.
There are also two exotics carried over from Destiny 2:
- Symmetry: an electric scout rifle earned in the new raid. It switches between fast shots and slow homing explosive rounds, with a stacking buff that empowers the second mode.
- Arbalest: a solar linear fusion rifle from the season pass or a shop using its currency. It deals heavy damage to elemental shields and elite champions, and breaking a shield applies a six-second damage-taken debuff.
Bulwark Ops: tower defence
The new weekly activity is a tower-defence mode that resets with each three-month season. It has a solo mode — a nine-level tutorial you must finish to unlock every mechanic — and a three-player co-op mode, both with normal and endless variants.
You protect a core from waves of enemies. In co-op each player has a base and some paths lead to a teammate's. Towers are built with currency earned during the run, upgraded up to three times and given random passives you can reroll for 200 currency each time. A central superweapon charges between waves and unleashes an orbital strike.
Progression includes 100 activity levels, tower cards, a 30-tower collection, chests and a title. Chests can be opened without energy for a basic reward or with at least 20 energy for the full one. The weak spot is that endless mode uses a single map, though that may change in future seasons.
The raid: Crota's End
This is the most interesting part of the season. It comes in normal and competitive (Another Calamity) versions, with several differences from its Destiny counterparts.
Rewards come from four stage chests, which can also be opened with energy. They give green essence that fills a weekly counter of up to 260 points; Symmetry needs 500. Milestones award Hive weapons, raid engrams and Symmetry itself. Clearing every stage each week yields 100 shards and four engrams.
Mechanics include charging plates, passing a chalice, managing buffs, killing marked enemies and destroying symbols. The first boss closely mirrors Destiny 2, with a 12-second window before a wipe. The final boss requires a quick-time event to break its shield, a portal sequence with healing elites and a stacking debuff that wipes the team at nine stacks.
Verdict
The Season of Providence confirms Destiny: Rising has a solid foundation as a cross-platform gacha shooter. Bulwark Ops is fun but needs more map variety, and the raid is the big reason to come back every week. As usual, the pull event, currency-gated passive rerolls and energy-locked chests are where the monetisation shows.
