Preservation team Yuuku has located and recovered King's Field Mobile, the phone version of FromSoftware's first game, and made it available to the public.

A bit of history

The original King's Field came out only in Japan and only on the first PlayStation. In 2004 FromSoftware released a phone adaptation that, over the years, came to be considered lost.

How it differs from the original

The phone version isn't a straight copy. It adds an automap, redesigned level layouts and other improvements suited to the format. And the fans didn't just recover it — they translated it into English as well.

How to play it

The download is free, but you'll need an emulator to run it, since it was built for early-2000s handsets.

Is it worth it?

Its dungeon crawling and fights against orcs feel dated today. Even so, it has special value for Souls fans: King's Field laid many of the foundations FromSoftware would later build on in Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
